.ISLAM is a new generic Top-Level domain name. The Arabic word ‘Islam’ simply means “submission”, and is derived from a word meaning “peace”. However, it is usually the term denoting one of the fastest growing religions in the world – Islam.
The main reason for the creation of .islam domain names is to increase public awareness of this religion. Second-level domains will only be available for those applicants who wish to provide and support muslim community. Quite recently, The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has voiced their opinion in regards to the .ISLAM and .HALAL domain names Expressing their dissatisfaction with the .ISLAM domain being registered by a Turkish company, despite the fact that, as previously stated, this company does not represent the entire Muslim community.
