.IMAMAT is a new generic Top-Level domain name introduced by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). In the Arabic language the word „Imamat” means „leader” or „leadership”. There may be several meanings of the word imamat including spiritual leaders as well as a political leaders.
In Islamic World there is a special holiday called Imamat Day to “mark the anniversary of the day that their present (or Hazar) Imam succeeded his predecessor to become the Imam of the Time”. Word “Imamat” refers to more than just the concept of Imamat, but rather to the institution of the Ismaili Imamat which today encompasses numerous Ismaili Muslim activities and organisations as well as institutions around the world.
